This image was taken in La Crosse Wisconsin by Nature Photographer Al Mitchell on February 19, 2007. With Temperatures in the 20 below range, the river had all but frozen over, leaving one small hole of about 4 acres for the Eagles to fish from. This eagle was approaching the open hole, already having spotted a fish, and making his run down to water level to catch the fish. be01gp

With Temperatures in the 20 below range, the river had all but frozen over, leaving one small hole of about 4 acres for the Eagles to fish from. This Eagle had just missed catching a fish and was in a high G turn to go back and try again. A 25 mph head wind allowed him to flare like this and make the turn faster. Bald Eagles are true masters of the air. be02gp
